Evans was the only full-time staffer in athletic training until his final two years. A number of his former student-assistants went into athletic training, including one who serves on the staff of the U.S. Olympic Team.

After retire from his role in athletic training, Evans remained an important part of the university where he served as an associate professor in the health science department. Evans retired from the university in 2015.
