Mansfield University Athletic Hall of Fame
Joe played football, basketball, and baseball from 1953 through 1957. He played as a center/linebacker in football, a guard in basketball, and a catcher/outfielder in baseball. He won eleven varsity letters in these sporst during his career at Mansfield, and was a four year starter in every game for all three sports.
During his basketball career Joe once scored 33 points in the first half against Bloomsburg...ending the game with 37 total points. Captain of the team from '55-57, he was the team leader in assists (three years), rebounds (two years), and the leading scorer ('56-'57). In addition, he was an All-Conference basketball selection in '56-'57. Witowski led the football team in tackles in '56 and '57, and received All-Conference honors in '56. He was named a captain for the program in '56.
In '57, Joe received the M-Club Award as the top senior athelete, and received the Gold Ball Award in recognition for four letters in one major sport, or six letters in any combination of Sports. Witowski was a member of Sigma Zeta Fraternity (Honorary Society), a member of the Dorm Council, and a member of the Alumni Athletic Committee.
