Mansfield University Athletic Hall of Fame
Pete Dokas was a member of the 1948, 1949, and 1950 football teams at Mansfield (State Teachers College). A three-year letterwinner in football, Pete played both offensive and defensive end. At 6-5 and 240 he was a mountian of a man for that era.
After seeing action in the European Theater in WWII, Pete entered Mansfield after being discharged on the GI Bill.
Although no individual or team records are available for the time period Pete played, he is frequently mentioned in the game recounts in the yearbook for those seasons.
More importantly, in 1950 Pete was named to the AP Pennsylvania All-State Small College team, one of the few Mountaineer players to ever earn that honor. He played before the formation of the PSAC.
in 1950, Pete was affored an honor, which has never before, or since been bestowed on a Mansfield football player, when he was invited to play in the Blue-Grey Senior Bowl Game in Montgomery, AL.
Pete was the only small college football player in the country to play in the Blue-Grey Game the showcased many All-Americans for the biggest football colleges in the country.
After the game, Pete was offered a contract by the Chicago Bears of the NFL to Play the 1951 season for a salary of $5000.
After serving in education for 37 years, Pete Dokas passed away on8/14/01
