Joe wrestled from 1934-1938 and was co-captain in 1936 and again in 1938. He won 29 matches; 1 forfeit and 1 loss. Joe wrestled 3 out of 4 undefeated teams during the four years. He won the inter-collegiate wrestling championship in state competition. Joe fought in Golden Gloves in 1933 and 1934 and competed in 7 bouts – he won all 7 and received a gold buckle and gold cup. Joe was also the Student Council President in 1938 and was written up in the Flashlight as “a wrestler who combines brains and agility to rank as one of the most skillful grapplers in the history of Mansfield.”
