Mansfield Athletics

Joe Russel, Mansfield class of 1965, was a four-year regular for the highly successfull Mountaineer "roundballers" of the early 60's.

Russell was an intergral part of the championship seasons, including his sophomore year when the Mountaineers won their second straight state title and were invited to the NAIA playoffs for the secondstraight season. The Mounties lost just two regular season games that year.

Russell pulled down a career-best 246 rebounds that season while scoring 10.1 points per game.

A steady scorer and strong rebounder, Russell averaged a near double-double for his career with 9.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game.

Russell helped his team win the state title four straight years and helped them to win the NAIA District 19 championship during the 1964-65 season.
