Mansfield University Athletic Hall of Fame
Tom was a shortstop and third baseman on Mansfield’s baseball teams from 1967 through the 1971 seasons, winning three varsity letters. Tom holds Mansfield’s career record for stolen bases with 51 and is second in the record books with most stolen bases in a season with 29. He is sixth in career home runs with nine round-trippers. He played on Mansfield’s 1970 District 19, NAIA Championship team, as well as the PSAC 1970 Championship team. The Mounties that year were Area 8. NAIA runners-up. Tom led his team in stolen bases and home runs in 1970 and 1971 and in 1969 had the most RBI’s, highest slugging average, and assists, while tied for home runs, doubles, and triples. He was nominated for All=Conference in 1970 and 1971, and All-State in 1971. Tom was captain of his team in 1970 and 1971, and received the Scholar-Athlete Award in 1971. He was drafted be the Boston Red Sox, fifth round, and played Class A and AA ball from 1971 through 1973.
