A four-year letter winner on the football team, Dean Stewart is one of just three players to earn All-Conference honors all four seasons.

As a freshman in 1989, Stewart set school records for rushing yards in a half (212), game (230), and at that time season (890). He was the third leading rusher in the PSAC East that season. The leading rusher on the team in each of his four seasons, Stewart is the only player in MU history to rush for 650 or more in each of his four seasons.

Stewart was a three-time preseason and two-time postseason All-American selection who earned PSAC East or ECAC South Player of the Week honors 12 times during his career. The 1989 PSAC East and ECAC South Rookie of the Year, Stewart was also named the 1992 MU Fall Athlete of the Year.

Stewart's 2,883 career rushing yards still ranks as the most in MU history. He also holds the record for average yards per rush for a career (5.10) while eight of his 20 touchdown runs went for 40 or more yards. He was leading the PSAC East in rushing before a career ending injury in the seventh game of his senior season.

He was selected in the fifth round of the Canadian Football League draft in 1993 by the Toronto Argonauts. The 36th overall pick, Stewart is the highest draft choice in MU history.
