Cook earned First Team All-PSAC East honors in each of his three seasons with the Mountaineers. He was named a First Team All-American in 1994 and followed with Second Team All-American honors in 1995.

In 1995, Cook set new Mansfield University and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference records with 20 home runs. He ranked fourth in the nation in both home runs and slugging percentage that season. Cook remains second in school history with 164 career RBIs and third with 37 career home runs. By the end of his collegiate career in 1995, he held 10 different Mansfield or PSAC records.

Cook was a key member of three PSAC Championship teams in 1993, 1994, and 1995, and helped lead Mansfield to two NCAA Division II World Series appearances in 1993 and 1994. During his career, the Mountaineers posted a combined record of 123-41. Following graduation, Cook continued his playing career professionally with the Houston Astros organization.
