7540Mike Kemp was a four-year starter at running back on the football team from 1973-76 ending his career as the then all-time rushing leader with 2,278 yards.

Kemp completed his career as the holder of numerous game, season and career statistic records for the Mountaineers including rushing attempts in a season (181) and career (519), rushing yards in a season (849) and career (2,278), touchdowns in game (3), season (9) and career (22).

In addition, he held the school marks for kickoff (583) and punt return yardage (416) in a season and was the all-time career leader in both categories compiling 1,020 yards in punt returns and 1,426 yards in kickoff returns. He still holds the career all-purpose yardage mark with 5,280 yards.

Kemp was named to All-PSAC East 2nd Team honors in 1975 and selected the Mansfield University Athlete of the Year. That season he tied as the leading rusher in the PSAC East with with a then school-record 849 rushing yards on 181 carries. He also finished second in touchdowns scored among divisional schools in 1975 with nine as well ranking second in points with 56.

He was invited to numerous NFL and CFL training camps as a free agent including stints with Washington, Dallas, Cleveland, and Atlanta.

Kemp also competed as a sprinter on the track and field team establishing a school record in the 100-yard dash of 10.0 in 1974.
