A four-year letter winner on the football team, was a member of the offensive line from 1975-1978. Boyd was the heart of the Mountaineer “O” line during his career earning All-PSAC East 2^nd Team honors in 1976 and All-PSAC East 1^st Team honors during 1977 and 1978 seasons. During his senior year in 1978, Boyd was named the Most Outstanding Offensive Player as well as team MVP. He went to camp with both the NFL Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots.
