Playoff Bound Mounties Drop Regular Season Finale at BloomMANSFIELD –
Megan Miller went yard but the playoff bound Mansfield University softball team had its six-game winning streak snapped with a pair of losses at Bloomsburg in the regular season finale for both teams Sunday afternoon.
Mansfield fell 4-0 in the opener before being edged 3-2 in the nightcap.
In the opener, two Mansfield errors led to three unearned runs and the Mountaineers stranded eight runners.
Kate Pratt started in the circle and went the whole way striking out five and walking none.
Courtney Bauder,
Amanda Goodwin and
Kayla Allen doubled for the Mountaineers.
Taylor Parker went the distance for Bloomsburg scattering five hits and striking out eight to improve to 13-7 on the season.
In the nightcap, Bloomsburg scored twice in the bottom of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
Mansfield closed to the gap to 2-1 an inning later on a RBI single by
Emily Crandell.
The Mountaineers tied the at 2-2 with a run in the top of the fifth when
Megan Miller led off the frame with home run over the right field fence.
But Bloomsburg countered with a run in the bottom of the inning when Kayla McHale tripled with one out and later scored on a two out single by Hannah Moir.
Mansfield threatened again in the top of the seventh. Bauder drew a two out walk and
Stephanie Simmeth reached on an error to put runners on first and second before Pratt hit a ball to left field that was caught for the final out.
Crandell started and took the loss scattering five hits and striking out three. Pratt doubled while Miller hit her first home run of the season.
Sarah Bertoni went the distance for Bloomsburg to pick up the win with Moir going 2-3 with two RBI's.
With the losses, Mansfield finished fourth in the PSAC East and will face California (PA) the PSAC West top seed in the opening round of the PSAC playoffs in Quakertown on May 1.
