MANSFIELD – Senior Kate Pratt threw a two-hit shutout in the opener and senior Stephanie Simmeth drove in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to sweep Millersville Saturday afternoon and clinch a berth in the upcoming PSAC playoffs.

The Mountaineers won the first game 3-0 before pulling out a 4-3 victory in game two.

Mansfield, which needed one win over its final four games coming into today's action to qualify for a playoff spot, punched its ticket to its second straight PSAC playoff berth and the third overall in school history.

The Mountaineers are currently tied for third place in the PSAC East with Shippensburg. Mansfield has a doubleheader at second place Bloomsburg tomorrow while Shippensburg plays East Stroudsburg.

The PSAC Championship Tournament will be held in Quakertown May 1-3.

Seniors Emily Crandell, Kaitlyn Harris, Kate Pratt and Stephanie Simmeth were all honored in pregame ceremonies and each had an outstanding afternoon.

In the opener, Mansfield would get all the runs it would need with two scores in the bottom of the first inning.

With one out, Simmeth singled and advanced to third on a double off the wall by Pratt. Amanda Goodwin followed Pratt and doubled to center to score both runners.

Pratt, who allowed just two hits on the afternoon, was almost untouchable on the mound retiring the side in order through each of the first three innings.

The no-hitter attempts was broken up in the top of the fourth with Millersville's leadoff batter Jordan Sheffield singled before Pratt retired the next three batters in a row.

It remained a 2-0 game until the bottom of the sixth when Courtney Bauder drilled a ball over the right fielder's head and legged-out a rare inside-the-park home run.

Millersville got its only other hit of the game with one out in the seventh but Pratt retired the next two batters to pick up her 10th win of the season.  The senior struck out four and didn't allow a walk to pick up her second shutout in two days and third complete game victory in four days.

Goodwin went 2-3 with a double and two RBI.

Brianna Andraos took the loss to fall to 14-13 on the year.

In the nightcap, Mansfield jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three runs in the third inning. Bauder doubled to open the frame and scored one out later on a double by Pratt. Goodwin followed Pratt's double with a triple to right to drive in Pratt.

Senior Emily Crandell kept Millersville off the scoreboard for the first three innings but the Marauders closed the gap with two runs with two outs in the top of the fourth inning. Both runs scored on a double by Amanda Wink.

Millersville tied the game with a run an inning later and had a runner on second with one out when Ashley Inman relieved Crandell. After giving up a single to the first batter, she fanned the next two batters to end the threat with the score tied 3-3.

Crandell singled with one out in the bottom of the sixth for the Mountaineers and Bauder delivered a single to put runners on first and second. Simmeth then stroked a double to the gap to score what proved to be the winning run.

Bauder went 3-4 from the plate with a double and Simmeth was 2-2 with a double to lead the offense. Inamn picked up her sixth win of the season in eight decision striking out three over the last 2.2 innings.

Amanda Wink took the loss for Millersville with Heather Lutz and Danielle DiFilppo each getting two hits.

Mansfield travels to Bloomsburg on Sunday to conclude the regular season.
