FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Pratt and Crandell's Complete Game Victories Lift Mansfield to Sweep Over Shippensburg

MANSFIELD – Amanda Goodwin collected five hits on the day while Kate Pratt and Emily Crandell each tossed complete game wins as Mansfield softball earned a key PSAC East sweep over visiting Shippensburg Sunday afternoon at Lutes Field.

The Mountaineers won the opener 2-1 in 10 innings before cruising to a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.

In game one, Pratt retired the side on order before Mansfield (15-7, 7-5 PSAC East) scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the first inning. Courtney Bauder drew a lead-off walk and advanced to second base on a Goodwin sacrifice bunt. With two outs, Kayla Hahn stroked a single into center field to score Bauder.

Shippensburg (22-8, 8-6 PSAC East) tied the game in the top of the third inning when Tyler Thompson scored following a Hilary Lyons single.

Neither team could move a runner past second base over the next four and a half innings until the Raiders threatened with a runner at third in the top of the eighth inning. However, Pratt struck out the final batter of the half to preserve the tie.

With the score still tied at 1-1 in the 10th inning, the international tie breaker rule was put into effect with Shippensburg starting the inning with a runner on second. Pratt struck out the first two batters then forced a pop fly for the final out.

Kayla Allen started the bottom of the 10th inning on second base before moving to third on Bauder's sac bunt. Goodwin struck a well placed single into the gap in right to seal the victory for Mansfield.

Pratt moved to 6-3 on the season in her seventh complete game effort. The senior allowed just six hits and a walk while striking out seven batters in the contest.

In game two, Bauder broke up the scoreless tie with a big swing of the bat in the bottom of the third inning. After Laura Lawson singled, Bauder struck a two-run homer to give Mansfield the 2-0 lead over the Raiders. It was the junior's second round tripper of the season.

Goodwin followed the home run with a single, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ashley Inman's RBI single up the middle scored Goodwin and gave the Mounties a three run lead.

Shippensburg scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning to trail 3-2, but Mansfield came knocking in the bottom half with two more runs. Allen's double to left field scored Kaitlyn Harris who led off the inning with a single. Two batters later, Allen scored on a Goodwin RBI single to put Mansfield on top 5-2.

The Mountaineers added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth inning to lead 7-2. With two outs and bases loaded, Allen drove in the first run with a hard hit single at the pitcher. Bauder took a pitch off the hand to push the second run home.

Emily Crandell earned her sixth win and fourth complete game of the season. Crandell allowed six hits and four walks while fanning two batters.

Goodwin went 3-for-4 at the plate in game two with an RBI and a run scored.

Mansfield returns to action at Lutes Field on Monday for a PSAC East doubleheader against division leader West Chester. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
