FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Pratt and Simmeth Lead Mansfield in 4-0 Win Against Chowan
Troutville, VA – Mansfield took on Chowan University on the first day of their spring break trip at the West Virginia Wesleyan College Softball Challenge. The Mounties came up victorious in a 4-0 win over the Lady Hawks.
Kate Pratt went the distance pitching a near hitless game. The senior gave up a mere single in the top of the first to Liz Hipple. Pratt remained hitless the rest of the game with six strikeouts. The Mountaineer defense provided excellent support to Pratt with zero errors.
On the scoring side of the contest, Pratt got the Mounties started with a double into deep left field in the first inning.
Ashley Inman was able to put Mansfield up 1-0 on a RBI single to center with Pratt scoring.
Stephanie Simmeth started off the third inning with a lead-off double into deep right. The senior went on to score off of a Pratt double to put Mansfield up 2-0.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Kayla Hahn was able to get on base off of a fielding error.
Hannah Secord followed up with a single. Simmeth stepped up again for the Mounties with a two RBI single to right center with two outs. Hahn and Secord each scored a run.
Simmeth led Mansfield offensively going 2-3 with two RBI's and one run. Pratt also finished 2-3 with one RBI and one run.
The Mounties will take on Shepherd later this afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
