Pratt Ties Season Home Run Record as Mounties Sweep Millersville
MILLERSVILLE –
Kate Pratt tied her own MU season home run record with her 10th round-tripper of the year in the nightcap and
Caitlin Klobosits fanned nine in throwing a complete game in the opener to lead Mansfield to a sweep over Millersville in an PSAC interdivisional doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
Mansfield won the opener 6-1 behind Klobosits who earned her 10th win of the season, and captured the nightcap 4-1 in extra-innings.
In the opener, Klobosits scattered six hits and fanned nine while walking just one batter to improve to 10-4 on the season. It marked the first time a Mountaineer pitcher has recorded double-digit wins in a season since Kristen Dean won 11-games in 2006.
Mansfield scored twice in the first when Pratt hit a two-out double and was doubled in by freshman
Megan Miller. Miller then scored on a single by
Danielle Long.
Millersville cut the lead to 2-1 with a run in the second on a RBI single by Cara Nance before Klobosits struck out the next three batters in a row to end the inning.
Courtney Bauder led off the top of the third for Mansfield with a home run to increase the lead to 3-1.
In the fourth, Millersville threatened by loading the bases with none out. But Klobosits stymied the Marauders striking out the next two batters before getting the final out on a lineout to first base.
Mansfield put the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth, two of them coming on a two-out single by Pratt.
Klobosits now has 102 strikeouts in 85.1 innings worked on the season. It marks the first time a Mountaineer pitcher has struck out 100 or more batters in a season since Kelly Morris (Shannon) fanned 125 in 148.1 innings in 2000.
Pratt went 3-4 with two RBI's while freshman
Taylor Stupski was 2-4.
Ashley Cantiello took the loss for Millersville.
In the nightcap, junior
Emily Crandell got her first start in nine games worked this season and responded by allowing just two hits over 5.1 innings and striking out four.
Millersville broke a scoreless tie with a run in the third on a two-out RBI single by Danielle DiFilppo.

In the top of the eighth, Mansfield's
Stephanie Simmeth led off and reached on an error before Bauder moved the runner to third on a bunt single.
Megan Miller then singled in two runs before
Danielle Long singled in a third.
Pratt retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to pick up her fifth win of the season.
Mansfield, which out hit Millersville 7-2, was led offensively by Long who went 2-3.
Sarah Bertoni went the distance and took the loss for Millersville.
Mansfield improves to 16-10 overall and host Bloomsburg Sunday in a critical PSAC Central doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Helen Lutes Field.
