Simmeth Goes Yard Twice But Mounties Fall to Anderson

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Simmeth Goes Yard Twice in 9-5 Setback Against Anderson

SPARTENBERG, SC – Stephanie Simmeth slammed two of Mansfield's four home runs but it wouldn't be enough in a 9-5 setback to Anderson (SC) Friday afternoon.

Anderson scored first, picking up a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning off senior Caitlin Klobosits.

The Mountaineers cut the gap to 2-1 in the top of the third when Courtney Bauder belted a two-out solo home run but Anderson got two more runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Inman led off the top of the fourth with a solo home run to close to 4-2 before Anderson answered with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Mansfield pulled to 5-3 when Simmeth hit the first of her two home runs on the day in the fifth. Anderson would strike for four runs in the bottom of the sixth on a grand slam by Danielle Swygert.

The Mountaineers tried to rally in the top of the seventh with freshman Taylor Stupski doubling to start the inning Stupski scored on Simmeth's home run before Anderson's Bailey Smith struck out two of the next three batters to end the game.

Four of Mansfield's six hits in the game were home runs with Simmeth leading the offense with two home runs and three runs batted in. Courtney Bauder went 2-3 with a double and home run. Inman took the loss, striking out five and walking five in five innings of work.

Danielle Swygert led Anderson going 2-4 with a double and home run while driving in four RBI's. Smith went the distance, striking out 13 and walking three to earn the win.

Mansfield plays Lander and Columbus State on Saturday.
