MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University softball team rallied with three runs in the sixth to tie the game, but the Mountaineers couldn't hold on dropping game one 7-3. Game two was called off due to heavy rain and will not be made-up.

The Bald Eagles struck first in the third inning, when Brittany Muthard hit a two-run homer to left field. Muthard went yard again in the sixth with a solo-shot over the left field fence to give The Haven a 3-0 advantage over Mansfield.

Stephanie Simmeth started the Mansfield rally in the bottom of the sixth, drawing a lead-off walk on four straight balls. Freshman Kate Pratt brought Simmeth home from second with an RBI double to centerfield to cut the Mountie deficit to two runs. Nicole Yost's single to left field and Danielle Long's walk loaded the bases for Mansfield. Junior Jordan Rishel hit a clutch two RBI single to centerfield bringing home Pratt and Yost, tying the ball game at three runs apiece.

In the top of the seventh, Lock Haven's Nicole Smith gave her team the lead with a one-out grand slam making the score 7-3 in LHU's favor.

Mansfield couldn't answer back in the bottom of the inning and fell to a final score of 7-3.

Pratt led the Mountaineer offense going 3-3 from the plate with a run and an RBI. Simmeth was 1-3 scoring the first run in Mansfield's sixth inning rally. Rishel had a hit along with two RBIs.Yost added a hit and a run for the Mounties.

Lock Haven's Brittany Muthard was 2-2 on the day hitting two home runs including three runs and three RBIs.

The second game of the doubleheader was called off due to the heavy rainstorms affecting the north east.

Mansfield has moved its doubleheader against Clarion scheduled for Tuesday to Thursday, April 21 at 2:30 pm to avoid the forecasted rain tomorrow.
