Softball falls to Grand Valley (MI) 5-3
CLERMONT, FL – Kelly Pfleegor's two-run single was not enough to overcome a 5-0 deficit as Mansfield fell to Grand Valley State (MI) 5-3 in a NCAA Division II softball game at Clermont, FL Tuesday evening.
Grand Valley got three runs off starter
Caitlin Klobosits in the first two innings before she was relieved by freshman Liz Pieniazal who scattered three hits and struck out two over 3.2 innings.
Fellow freshman
Emily Crandell saw her first collegiate pitching action facing four hitters and allowing one hit in the seventh.
Mansfield was held to just three hits, singles by Jorden Rishel, Pfleegor and a double by
Chara Dixon.
Trailing in the bottom or the seventh, Mansfield opened the inning with strikeout before freshman
Kaitlyn Harris drew a walk.
Danielle Long ran for Harris and moved to second on a single to left by
Chara Dixon.
Kelly Pfleegor then singled to left to load the bases with just one out.
Kaitlin Kramer ground out to short but all three runners advanced including Long who scored to cut the lead to 5-3. But the rally ended with
Janelle Antes groundeding to second to end the game.
Hanna Santora went the distance for Grand Valley (4-2) while Katleigh Bertram went 2-3 with two RBI.
Mansfield will play Southern New Hampshire in a late game scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
