Kate Pratt Throws No-Hitter and Hits Home Run in First Collegiate Game -- Mounties Sweep St. Rose to Open Season

CLARMONT, FL – Freshman Kate Pratt threw a no-hitter and hit a home run in her first collegiate game to lead Mansfield to a 9-0 win in five innings over St. Rose in the first game of a doubleheader at Clarmont, FL Monday evening.

Mansfield won the nightcap 9-8 with Pratt and Janelle Antes combining to drive in five runs.

Pratt didn't allow a hit and struck out four while walking three batters in the season opener for the Mountaineers and was just as impressive with her bat drilling a solo home run of the left field fence in the third inning.

Fellow freshman Stephanie Simmeth went 3-3 with a double, triple and two RBI's in the game.
The second game has just started with Mansfield leading 2-0 after the first inning on a double by Nicole Yost.

In the nightcap, Mansfield rallied 7-2 deficit with a 9-8 win with three runs in the fifth inning. Two of those runs scored on a single by Pratt and Janelle Antes singled in another.

Mansfield outhit St. Rose 15-6 but stranded 12 runners. Freshman Liz Pieniazal started on the mound for Mansfield and after a scoreless first inning was charged with five runs on five hits and two walks.
 
Senior Melissa Baer came in relief allowing just one hit and striking out three over the final 5.1 innings to pick up the win.

Pratt went 3-5 with a double and three RBI while Nicole Yost was 2-2 with two doubles and an RBI. Janelle Antes was 3-5 with two RBI while Kelly Pfleegor went 4-3 with a triple.

Mansfield plays Southern New Hampshire and Grand Valley State in in single games Tuesday
