Mansfield drops 1-0 decision to No. 15 West Virginia Wesleyan in Virginia

SALEM, VA – Mansfield dropped a heart-breaking 1-0 decision to host and No. 15 ranked nationally West Virginia Wesleyan at the WVWU Tournament in Salem, VA Sunday morning.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the seventh,
Kate Pratt doubled with one out and moved to third on a single to left field by
Nicole Yost. One out later, Mansfield loaded the bases on a walk by
Danielle Long but a ground out to the pitcher ended the game.
West Virginia Wesleyan scored the game's only run in the third when with two outs, Shelby Carlson singled and scored on a double by Stephanie St. Peter.
Kate Pratt went the distance on the mound for the Mountaineers scattering five hits and striking out three while issuing no walks.
West Virginia Wesleyan's Kaitlyn Carey allowed just two hits, both of them coming in the seventh, while striking out six and walking one.
West Virginia Wesleyan improved to 21-4.
Mansfield has protested the game claiming WVW did not reenter the catcher. A final ruling has yet to be announced.
Mansfield falls to 7-4 on the season. Three of the four losses have come by one run.
Mansfield opens the PSAC Central season when the Mountaineers travel to IUP Tuesday.
