Kate Pratt tripled in the winning run in the top of the eighth to lift Mansfield to a 2-1 win over No. 8 ranked Winona State Thursday in Florida.
After waiting for an all morning rain to lift, the two teams settled into a top shelf pitching dual featuring Mansfield freshman sensation
Kate Pratt and Winona State's Stacey Struzynski.
Pratt, who pitched a no-hitter in her first collegiate start earlier in the week, allowed just an unearned run while scattering three hits and striking out eight over the first 6.1 before giving way to senior
Melissa Baer with the score tied at 1-1 in the seventh.
Baer got out of the inning with no damage and picked 1.2 innings of no-hit ball while striking out two and walking none to pick up her second win of the season.
Mansfield scored its first run in the top of the first inning when Pratt drew a two-out walk and scored on a double by Yost.
Winona State (11-2) scored its only run of the game on a passed ball in the bottom of the third to tie the score.
Mansfield threatened in the sixth when
Janelle Antes led off with a single and moved to second on a single by Yost but the Mountaineers couldn't push across a run.
Going to the international tiebreaker in the eighth, Kelly Pfleegor was placed on second to start the inning and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Kaitlin Kramer. After Antes struck out, Pratt laced a triple to drive in what proved to be the winning run.
Baer retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning stranding the placed runner at third as Mansfield improved to 4-1 on the season.
Yost went 2-3 with a double and an RBI for Mansfield with Amtes going 2-4. Pratt was 1-3 with a triple and the game winning-RBI.
Mansfield plays Northern State and Wayne State tomorrow to conclude their Florida trip.
