Houtz Signs Professional Contract with the Washington Wild Things

WASHINGTON, Pa. - Mansfield Mountaineers baseball standout Jacob Houtz inked a professional contract with the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League on Monday (Jul. 7).
 
Houtz is the 63rd Mountaineer Baseball player to ink a professional contract.
 
Houtz finished his collegiate career by crowding his trophy case. His multiple accolades include an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-American Third Team member, a Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-American Honorable Mention, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), D2CCA, ABCA/Rawlings Atlantic Region Player of the Year, and the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Year.

To highlight the program's best athlete in many years, the senior led the PSAC regular season in batting average (.444), total bases (118), OPS (1.433), slugging percentage (.874), and on-base percentage (.559). He finished top five in the conference in hits (61), RBIs (50), runs (48), doubles (16), home runs (14), while ranking eighth nationally in average, seventh in OBP, and sixth in slugging percentage, and was named a PSAC Spring Top 10 member.
 
The Washington Wild Things are a professional baseball team in the Frontier League that plays in Washington, PA. The Washington Wild Things were founded in December 2001 when a group of local businessmen and women decided to purchase a team to play at the new ballpark being constructed just off I-70 in Washington County.
