AUSTIN, Texas. –
Jacob Houtz polished off his silver slugger season with an Academic All-American First Team nod, announced in the College Sports Communicators release on Tuesday (Jul. 1).
The senior becomes the first Mountaineer since Brittany Ryan in 2020 to earn this award and the latest First Team member since Mike Resetar in 1996.
Houtz finished with a 3.85 GPA in his Political Science & Criminal Justice major to become one of two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) student-athletes to earn this accolade. The threat of the lineup was named Mansfield's Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and just became a four-time PSAC Scholar-Athlete.
On the field, the Mansfield Spring Athlete of the Year finished the season as an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-American Third Team member, a Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-American Honorable Mention, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), D2CCA, ABCA/Rawlings Atlantic Region Player of the Year, and the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Year.
Houtz was also the 28th student-athlete to earn the PSAC Top 10 award in Mansfield history.
