SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.-
Marcus Quaker currently sits in seventh place in the Decathlon after the first five events, while competing on the first day of the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Slippery Rock, on Thursday May 8.
Quaker has 3532 points after the first five events, 370 points back from the leader. Day one's events were the 100-meter dash, long jump, shot put, high jump and 400-meter dash.
Quaker opened the day with a 10.94 in the 100-meter dash, placing him fourth to start the day, earning 874 points. The time is the fifth fastest 100-meter dash in program history.
In the second event long jump Quaker had a best mark of 5.94 earning him 574 more points putting him at 1448 (8).
Quaker earned 565 points in the shot put with a mark of 11.32. (Fourth best of the meet).
Quaker had the second best high jump of the group clearing a height of 1.93 meters, a career high. He earned 740 points, bringing his total to 2753.
In the final event of the session, Quaker finished with a time of 50.78 in the 400-meter dash. It was the fifth fastest time of the group earning him 779 points for a day one total of 3532.
Quaker will finish the decathlon and the other Mountaineers will compete on day two of the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday, May 9.
