Mounties' Upset Bid Falls Short at Lock Haven

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Mansfield University men's basketball team (5-16, 4-13 PSAC) dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest on the road at Lock Haven University (16-6, 12-5 PSAC), 89-76, on Monday night, Feb. 6.

Michael Dickson led the way for the Mounties, finishing with 17 points, nine rebounds, and three assists in his third start of the season. Gabe Perez netted 15 points, shooting 3-of-6 from behind the arch, while Scott Woodring poured in 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds and a team-high four steals. Idris Ali added 12 points.

After a back-and-fourth first half, the Bald Eagles led by as much as 15, 78-63, with just over four minutes to go in the game.

The Mounties got back in striking distance with a late 10-3 to cut the deficit to 80-73, with 1:42 remaining. Dickson and Woodring scored four points each during the comeback.

However, that was as close as MU could get, as the Bald Eagles closed out the contest by limiting the Mounties to three points, while scoring nine, closing out the victory.

Both teams shot 36 percent from behind the arch, but LHU knocked down four more shots than Mansfield from the floor and six more shots at the charity stripe.

The Bald Eagles led 31-21 in fast break points and 52-28 in points in the paint.

In the first half, the Mounties trailed through the opening six minutes before knotting the game at 11 following a pair of successful free throws by Waller.

The Bald Eagles regained the lead on the following possession, but MU responded with a 9-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 22-16 lead with 11 minutes to go.

Dickson continued to dominate the half, scoring four straight to help the Mounties take their largest lead, 36-26 at the six-minute mark. However, Lock Haven closed out the final 5:19 on a 17-6 run to take a 43-42 lead into the break. The Bald Eagles knocked down three shots from behind the arch during the run, while the Mounties did not connect from deep.

For LHU, Eli Washington led six Bald Eagles in double figures with 16 points and six rebounds.
