COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Alex Esterling has earned another award this week as the forward from No. 7 Mansfield has been named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II National Player of the Week after her incredible performance to end the season. Â
She was also named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athlete of the Week this week.Â
The senior sent three goals in on the past week as No. 10 Mansfield won at No. 4 Bloomsburg and at No. 9 Millersville to solidify the Mounties first ever home playoff game, securing the fourth seed in the PSAC playoffs and help clinch their first playoff berth since 2019.Â
Against the Huskies, Esterling scored early to take the lead and as the buzzer rang, the awarded penalty corner shot from the forward put the Huskies back in their cage to win 4-3. Against Millersville, Esterling scored the first goal for the Mounties, including also putting away the first shootout goal in a 3-2 difference, to win 3-2 over the Marauders. Â
On Tuesday afternoon, the Mounties won their first ever postseason playoff game, taking down fifth seeded Bloomsburg, 1-0, in a dramatic overtime finish on Karl Van Norman Field.Â
Mansfield will travel to the top seeded East Stroudsburg for their PSAC Semifinal matchup on Friday, November 3 with the highly anticipated matchup with the Warriors starting at noon.Â
