MANSFIELD, Pa. – Mansfield University field hockey junior
Hannah Meyer (Kitchener, Ontario / Forest Heights) has been named a 2022 NCAA DII National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-American, the organization announced on Friday afternoon, Dec. 16.
Â
"Hannah is so deserving of this recognition," fellow NFHCA All-American and current field hockey head coach
Brittany Hansrote said. "She has been a main anchor on our defensive line since her freshman year starting every game of her career. Her growth has been tremendous, and this season she proved herself as one of the top players in the nation. We are so proud of Hannah; she is a fantastic representation of our program and Mansfield University."
Meyer brings an All-America honor back to the program for the first time since 2019, when standout goalkeeper
Brittany Ryan '20 standout forward
Dana Evans '20 landed on the first- and second-team, respectively. Selected to the Second-Team, Meyer is the 20
th athlete in program history to be named an All-American.
Â
Meyer was named a Second-Team All-PSAC Defender the previous two seasons (2021-22), after helping lead the Mounties to the postseason during her freshman campaign, the first trip for the program since 2010.
Â
The Mounties (8-10, 2-7 PSAC) reached as high as No. 9 in the NFHCA National Poll and finished just two spots out of the PSAC Postseason Tournament, in the toughest conference in NCAA DII field hockey.
Â
Meyer started all 18 games in 2022, totaling 1091 minutes, while dishing out three assists and finding the back of the net three times. As the anchor of the Mountaineers backline, Meyer finished tied for second in the PSAC and ninth in the nation with four defensive saves. Meyer seemed to get stronger when it matters most, as the junior recorded a goal and an assist to help the Mounties build an early 2-0 lead on No. 4 West Chester on Nov. 5.
Â
The 2021 MU Female Athlete of the Year, Meyer currently sits tied for sixth all-time for defensive saves in program history.
