#18 Marauders Edge Mounties In Extras; Second Series Slated for Shaute Saturday

MILLERSVILLE – After flipping the schedule for this weekend's series, the Mansfield University baseball team dropped a pair of conference games at #18 Millersville on Friday afternoon.

In the first game of the day, the Mountaineers struck for the first two hits of the game.  Josh Kulina rocked a double down the right field line in the first inning. In the top of the second, Camren Ney singled through the left side. That would be all MU would muster off of Millersville until the fifth inning.

The Marauders scored four runs across the second and third innings.

In the top of the sixth inning, Brady Mengel drove a pitch to left-center field, but it was tracked down by Cole Friese over his shoulder. Brittain Shander read the play well and advanced 90 feet after tagging-up. With two down and runners on the corners, Millersville was able to close the door on the Mounties again.  The Marauders scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to make it 9-0, and closed out the first game of the day.  Evan McAndrew (3-4) went four innings with five strikeouts, but took the loss.

Koty Fitzgerald, Brittain Shander, and Camren Ney each recorded a hit apiece, while Josh Kulina led the team with a 2-for-3 performance at the dish.

GAME 2
Hunter DePrimo started his first game of the season in the second game of the afternoon. Typically a long-relief hurler, the right-handed sophomore tossed seven innings of shutout ball, allowing just four hits and walk while striking out eight Maruaders.

Trying to maintain a scoreless sheet, Millersville threatened DePrimo in the fifth inning with Eric Callahan leading off with a HBP. He then stole second to get into scoring position.  Getting a little greedy, he took off for third base. Camren Ney threw Callahan out at third for the second out.  DePrimo then diced up Harris to end the inning. He had successfully maneuvered the Marauders lineup for five scoreless innings.

In the bottom of the seventh, Dominic Hardaway worked a nine-pitch walk, putting runners on first and second. Kulina then made a perfect throw across his body after ranging to his right for a grounder in the hole for the second out. A long fly ball to left field ended the seventh inning, with the game still knotted at 0-0.

With two out in the top of the eighth, Brittain Shander laced a double down the right field line. However, Shander's clutch hit would be fruitless, and into the bottom of the eighth the game would go.

In their eighth inning AB's, the #18 Marauders were able to scrape together the game-winning run and take a walk-off win over the Mountaineers.

The teams are scheduled to travel back to Mansfield for a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Shaute Field. There will be live stats and a video broadcast with Drew Patrick and Bob Michaels, made possible by Visit Potter-Tioga.
