MANSFIELD – Millersville made sure to bring their bats with them on the trip to Mansfield, securing both games in a doubleheader against the Mountaineers at Shaute Field on Saturday afternoon.
GAME 1:
Millersville (27-7, 15-1 PSAC) started their scoring attack early and often, scoring in each of the first four innings. The Marauders tied a season-high in runs scored with 21 on 17 hits including six home runs, including a multi-homerun day from Dominic Hardaway who finished the day 3-for-5 with two home runs, five RBIs, and three runs scored.
The Mansfield (5-24, 2-13 PSAC) offense came on an Eric Senior sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first, scoring Brittan Shander, and another sac fly coming in the bottom of the fourth coming off the bat of Tony Brown.
Game 2:
Bryce Zaparzynski would toe the slab for Mansfield (5-25, 2-14 PSAC) in game two, and would handle the vaunted Marauder lineup for the better part of the first five innings.
Mansfield struck first on offense, when Eric Senior lined a single to center field, driving in Brittan Shander to put the Mountaineers up 1-0. This gave Zaparzynski room to work, as he would retire six of the first seven batters he faced.
Zaparzynski would hold Millersville (28-7, 16-1) scoreless and to only four hits through the first four frames, but the Marauders would strike back in the fifth and beyond, going on to score 15 runs over the final three innings.
Millersville hit four more home runs in game two, bringing their total on the day to 10.
Mansfield will return to action this Tuesday, April 16th as they travel to Clarion for a twin bill scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
