Men’s Basketball Set to Host #6 IUP on Saturday

MANSFIELD - The Mansfield University men's basketball team will look to rebound from a heartbreaking overtime loss in their last outing when they host No. 6 Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. inside Decker Gymnasium.

The men's and women's basketball programs have teamed up with the Mansfield Foundation to honor veterans on the afternoon.

The Mansfield Foundation has customized red, black and green camouflage socks with the Mansfield University branded "M" on the heel that will be sold throughout the day. The socks are priced at $15, with all proceeds generated being presented to the Members of Military Scholarship.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Mounties fell in overtime to Roberts Wesleyan College, 109-99 on Wednesday.
  • The Mounties held a 17-point lead in the first half and let by as much as 10 with 1:40 remaining, but the Redhawks stormed back in the closing minutes and drilled a trifecta at the buzzer to send the game into overtime.
  • Roberts Wesleyan netted two more triples in the opening minutes of the extra frame while pulling away for the non-conference victory.
  • Taylor Sweeney broke out for a season-high 18 points on six-of-9 shots from three. Garrett Cook also added 19 points while shooting 5-of-7 from 3-point land.
  • Trevor English notched his 600th-career rebound on his way to his fifth straight double-double (14 points, 11 rebounds).
  • The Mounties had five players in double-figures.
  • Junior Christian Simmons contributed 19 points and 12 rebounds off the bench.
  • Senior Tyler Moffe did a little bit of everything, finishing with 11 points, five dimes and five rebounds.
SCOUTING OPPONENT
  • The undefeated Crimson Hawks come into Saturday ranked sixth in both the NABC Coaches and D2SIDA national polls.
  • IUP took down Felician University, 91-70 in their last game. Dave Morris led six Crimson Hawks' in double-figures, finishing with 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field.
  • Tommy Demogerontas leads the team with a scoring average of 16.8 points per game. Armoni Foster is right behind him with an average of 16.2 and Malik Miller is third on IUP with an average of 15.7.
LOOKING AHEAD

The Mounties return right before Christmas break to continue their stretch of six straight home games when they host Gannon University in PSAC action on Friday, Dec. 20 at 3 p.m. inside Decker Gymnasium.
