Mounties Take Two Against Penn College on the Road

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Take Two Against Penn College on the Road

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Taylor Hillson recorded five hits on the day while Louis Sick and Chas Parsons each earned wins on the mound as Mansfield came away with a 5-3 victory over Penn College in the opener before taking the nightcap 3-2 in non-conference action at historic Bowman Field.

The Mountaineers have been red hot as of late, winning nine of their last ten games.

Mansfield got the scoring started in game one when Owen Lukens hit a lead-off double in the top of the second inning before scoring on Wes Custer's RBI triple. Scott Rockwell walked and stole second before Hillson scored Custer on a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0 Mansfield. Eric Schanzenbacher reached with a single and then stole second. An error on the play allowed Rockwell to cross the plate. Defending PSAC East Athlete of the Week Westyn Baylor drove in the fourth run of the inning with an RBI double to center.

In the top of the fifth, back-to-back singles by Zephan Kash and Ryan Paige put runners at first and second, but Penn College put two away by forcing a double play. Custer's two-out double scored Kash from third to give the Mounties the 5-0 lead.

The Wildcats got just two hits on Sick through the first four innings and spoiled the shutout bid in the fifth when Jeremy Rall drove in a run with a sac fly to centerfield.

Penn College pushed across two more runs in the sixth but would pull no closer.

Sick picked up his second win of the season, pitching 6.0 innings with just one earned run.  Zach Sacoman earned the save after tossing the final inning.

In game two, Mansfield put up a run in the top of the first inning when Anthony Renz drove a ball deep into centerfield that bounced high off the wall to score Baylor.

Penn College evened the score in the second inning with Devin Masser's sacrifice fly to right field.

In the top of the third, Mansfield quickly loaded the bases with three straight singles by Rockwell, Hillson and Schanzenbacher. Baylor scored Rockwell with a groundout to third to take the lead before Hillson crossed the plate on an error by the shortstop.

The Wildcats added another run in the fourth to bring the score to 3-2.

Reliever Matt Zielen pitched a perfect 2.0 innings in relief to close the door on Penn College and earn the save. Parsons recorded his second win of the year, pitching 5.0 innings with just one earned run and three strikeouts.

Hillson went 5-for-7 on the day with a run and an RBI to lead Mansfield offensively.

The Mountaineers travel to Clarion on Wednesday for a PSAC crossover doubleheader.
