MILLERSVILLE – Emily Crandell tossed a complete-game shutout and Stephanie Simmeth broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single in the seventh inning to lead Mansfield to a 4-0 over Millersville in the nightcap of a PSAC East doubleheader at Millersville Saturday afternoon.

Mansfield dropped the opener 2-0 in a terrific pitching duals between the Mountaineers Kate Pratt and Millersville Brittany Andraos.

In the nightcap, Crandell and Andraos squared off on the mound with both pitchers holding the opponent team scoreless through the first six innings of the game.
In the top of the seventh the Mountaineer bats final came alive, striking for four runs on four hits.

Freshman Hannah Secord led off with a single to left and advanced to second on a passed ball. With one out, Simmeth singled to left to drive in Secord for the first run of the game. Courtney Bauder followed with a single to center moving Simmeth to second before Kate Pratt loaded the bases by reaching on a fielder's choice. Amanda Goodwin drove in Simmeth with a grounder to third for a 2-0 lead with two outs.

Bauder and Pratt had moved up to second and third on the play and freshman Kayla Hahn put the game out of reach with a double down the right field line scoring both runners.

Crandell, who pitched out of jams in the first and fifth, has not allowed an earned run over her last 15 innings and improved to 5-3 on the season. She scattered five hits and struck out four while walking one in tossing her first collegiate shutout.

Pratt went 2-3 from the plate while Hahn doubled and drove in two runs to top the offense. Simmeth had two hits in the doubleheader to move past Alison Tagliaferri (2002-2005) into 7th place on the all-time hits list with 136 in her career.

The opener was a story of lost opportunity and one wrong pitch for the Mountaineers.

Mansfield, while left seven runners on base during the course of the game, stranded five runner over the second and third innings. The failed to put a notch on the scoreboard with runners on second and third with two outs in the second and with bases-loaded with one out in the third.

In the bottom of the third, Pratt hadn't allowed a Millersville hit until Taylor Odell-Smith reached on a bunt with one out. Odell-Smith was followed by Jordan Sheffield who hit a two-run home run to account for all the scoring in the game.

Mansfield had one last chance in the top of the seventh when Kayla Hahn drilled a one-out single to left but Andraos got the next two runners to pop up and strike out to preserve the win.
Each team had five hits in the game with Hahn going 2-3 for the Mountaineers.

Pratt suffered just her second loss in six decisions on the season allowing four this over 3.2 innings while striking out two. Ashley Inman worked the final 2.1 innings allowing just one hit and striking out two while walking none.

Andraos went the distance scattering give hits and striking out five to improve to 10-5.

Mansfield improves to 12-6 overall and 4-4 in the PSAC Easts. The Mountaineers remain in a five-way tie for third place in the PSAC East with a .500 mark in conference games.
