Box Score 2 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Baseball Splits PSAC East Doubleheader at West Chester
WEST CHESTER –
Brandon Miller went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs and an RBI to lead Mansfield past West Chester 6-4 in game two of a PSAC East doubleheader at Serpico Field on Saturday. West Chester came away with a 5-0 win in the opener.
The Golden Rams jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the nightcap, scoring two runs in the first and another in the second.
After two scoreless innings, Mansfield (14-9, 2-6 PSAC East) erased the West Chester (13-9, 6-6 PSAC East) lead with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. With bases loaded,
Eric Schanzenbacher plated the first two runs with a single to left field scoring
Seth Tressler and
Taylor Hillson.
Anthony Renz's sacrifice fly to deep left field score Miller and moved
Johnny LeClair and Schanzenbacher into scoring position.
Stanton Tentnowski drove in the final run of the inning with a single to score Schanzenbacher.
The Mountaineers added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth to increase their lead to 6-3. Miller's RBI double brought in Hillson before Miller scored on a throwing error in the next at bat.
West Chester scored a run in the bottom of the sixth, but couldn't overcome the Mansfield lead.
Starting pitcher
Matt Engler earned his second win of the season, pitching 4.0 innings with six hits and three earned runs.
Jeremy Mapstone picked up his league-leading sixth save of the season after throwing the final 3.0 innings for the Mounties. The junior allowed just three hits while striking out two batters.
Miller, Schanzenbacher, Tentnowski and Hillson each collected two hits each in the game.
The Rams were led offensively by Tyler Coleman who went 3-for-3 with two runs.
In game one, Mansfield collected six total hits in the game, but failed to push across a run.
The Rams' Mat McAllister tossed a complete game shutout on the mound with five strikeouts. McAllister picked up his second win of the season.
West Chester scored two runs in the third inning and another in the fourth to take a 3-0 advantage. The Rams added two more in the bottom of the sixth to lead 5-0.
Mansfield's
Brandon Garrett took the loss, pitching 5.1 innings with seven hits and three earned runs. The freshman struck out three batters and walked just two in the outing.
Miller and
Dave Glueck led the Mountaineers at the plate with two hits each.
The Mountaineers host West Chester at Shaute Field on Sunday at 1 p.m.
