FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Baseball Ends Season with Win at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG – Mansfield baseball defeated Bloomsburg 4-2 in game two of a PSAC East doubleheader Saturday afternoon to end the 2014 season with a victory. The Mountaineers were edged in game one 6-5.

In the nightcap, Mansfield scored all four of its runs in the top of the first inning on four hits. Brandon Miller drew a one out walk before Eric Schanzenbacher singled to put runners on first and second. Back-to-back RBI singles by Westyn Baylor and Johnny LeClair scored Miller and Schanzenbacher. An Anthony Renz double down the left field line plated Baylor before LeClair scored on a sacrifice fly.

Mansfield starting pitcher Matt Engler allowed just one hit through the first three innings. Bloomsburg got on the board in the bottom of the fourth with an unearned run to trail 4-1.
The Huskies added another run in the seventh, but the rally fell short.

Engler picked up his third win of the season, pitching 6.0 innings with no earned runs and two strikeouts. Quin Taylor earned the save, throwing the final three outs of the game.

In game one, Mansfield took an early lead 2-0 lead with a run in the top of the second and third innings. Bloomsburg scored in the bottom of the third, but the Mountaineers answered right back with a run in the top of the fourth to lead 3-1.

A big four-run fifth inning gave the Huskies a 5-3 advantage.

Runs by Taylor Hillson and Seth Tressler in the top of the sixth knotted the game at 5-5.

Pete Edgar led-off the bottom of the seventh with a walk before stealing second base. A throwing error in the next at bat allowed Edgar to score from second and give Bloomsburg the win.

Cody Heane earned the win on the mound for Bloomsburg after pitching the final 1.2 innings.

Tressler, Miller and Marshall Kiessling each went 3-for-4 at the plate in the opener.

Mansfield racked up 14 hits in the game.

The Mountaineers end the 2014 campaign with a 20-23 overall record and an 8-20 mark in the PSAC East.
