FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Taylor's Complete Game Victory Lifts Mansfield to Split at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN – Quin Taylor earned a complete game win on the mound and Johnny LeClair blasted his league-leading seventh home run of the season to lift Mansfield past Kutztown 6-1 in game two. The Mountaineers' game one rally came up just short in a 7-6 loss.

Mansfield (13-8, 1-5 PSAC East) put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning on LeClair's single to centerfield that scored Eric Schanzenbacher and Brandon Miller.

Taylor worked himself out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the second and the Mountaineers responded by adding two more runs in the top of the third on LeClair's two-run blast. With the home run that also scored Schanzenbacher, LeClair now leads the PSAC with seven round trippers.

In the bottom of the third, Taylor again worked through a bases loaded situation to maintain the shutout.

After three scoreless innings for both teams, Mansfield added two more runs in the top of the seventh to extend its lead to 6-0. Taylor Hillson led off the inning with a double and advanced to third before scoring on a Miller RBI single. Miller would later score on a Kutztown fielding error.

Kutztown broke up the shutout in the bottom of the seventh with a run, but Mansfield's lead was too much to overcome.

Taylor tossed all 7.0 innings on the mound, allowing six hits and three walks while striking out six batters. The senior improves to 3-2 on the season.

LeClair led Mansfield offensively, going 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs, a run and a walk. Miller, Schanzenbacher and Hillson all had two hits apiece in the win.

Mansfield opened the scoring in game one when Westyn Baylor's RBI double drove in Stanton Tentnowski who reached on a walk. Kutztown answered the Mountaineer's run with five of their own in the bottom of the inning on four hits.

The Golden Bears increased their lead to 7-1 with two more runs in the bottom of the second inning.

In the top of the third, Tentnowski singled and Schanzenbacher doubled facing two outs to put runners on second and third. Baylor's single to left field cleared the bases to score two runs for Mansfield.

The Mountaineers cut their deficit to 7-5 with two more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Anthony Renz led off the inning with a single followed by Miller's double to put two runners in scoring position.  Marshall Kiessling's sacrifice fly scored Renz before Hillson singled to left field to plate Miller.

Mansfield added another run in the top of the fifth when Tentnowski reached on a single to right field then proceeded to steal second and third. The senior scored on a throwing error by the catcher to cut Kutztown's lead to 7-6.

In the top of the seventh, Schanzenbacher drew a two-out walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Schanzenbacher stole third, but the tying run was left stranded as the Mountaineers were edged by Kutztown.

Johnathan Earnest took the loss for Mansfield. Kyle Stoudt earned the win, pitching 4.0 innings with five earned runs.

The Mountaineers are back in action on Friday when they welcome West Chester to Shaute Field for PSAC East action.
