Mounties Split with ESU to Remain in Playoff HuntÂ
EAST STROUDSBURG –
Kate Pratt fired a complete-game six-hitter and
Kaitlyn Harris and
Courtney Bauder each had three hits to lead Mansfield to a 7-2 wwin in the opener of a PSAC East doubleheader at East Stroudsburg Thursday afternoon.
Mansfield (16-10, 8-8 PSAC East) had the bases-loaded in the seventh inning in the nightcap but Pratt drive to centerfield was hauled in at the warning track in a 4-3 loss.
With the split, Mansfield remains in the 4th place in the PSAC East with the top four teams from each division advancing to the championship tournament.
In the opener, Mansfield jumped out to an early lead by scoring three times in the top of the third. With one out,
Courtney Bauder singled and moved to second on a passed ball. One out later, Pratt was intentionally walked.
Ashley Inman followed and drew a walk to load the bases before senior
Kaitlyn Harris lined a double to right to drive in all three runners.
Mansfield increased its lead to 4-0 when
Hannah Secord drew a walk and later scored on a single to left by Bauder.
Pratt took a shutout into the bottom of the fifth when East Stroudsburg scored twice on a double by Kasey Meckes and RBI single by Cara McNeil to cut the gap to 4-2.
Mansfield got a run back in the top of the sixth with Bauder led off the inning with a single and later scored on a throwing error to put the Mountaineers up 5-2.
The Mountaineers added insurance runs in the top of the seventh when
Kayla Hahn singled to lead off the inning and later scored on a double by
Laura Lawson. Lawson later scored on a single by
Amanda Goodwin.
Mansfield pounded out 13 hits to six by East Stroudsburg and played errorless ball.
Bauder and Harris each had three hits in the game with Harris doubling and driving in three runs. Bauder also had an RBI with
Megan Miller and Pratt going 2-4.
Pratt went the distance for the eighth time this season scattering six hits and striking out five to improve to 7-3 on the season.
In the nightcap, East Stroudsburg jumped on Mountaineer starter
Emily Crandell for four runs in the bottom of the first with three of them coming off a bases-loaded double by Sierra Wagner.
Mansfield got a run back in the second inning when
Megan Miller led off with a double and later scored.
Ashley Inman relieved Crandell in the fourth inning and helped keep the Mountaineers alive shutting down the Warriors with no hits and striking out three in three innings worked.
Trailing 4-1 heading into their final at-bat, Harris singled to start the inning and moved to second when Inman reached on a field's choice. Harris scored off a fielding error on a single by
Laura Lawson to cut the lead to 4-2. One out later,
Kayla Hahn singled to load the bases.
After another out, Pratt came to the plate with two outs and hit a shot to center that was tracked down on the warning track for the final out.
Mansfield out hit ESU 9-6 with Goodwin and Harris getting two hits apiece.
Crandell took the loss for Mansfield with Rachael Liguori going the distance to pick up the win.
Mansfield host Kutztown in a key PSAC East doubleheader Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Helen Lutes Field.
