FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mansfield Sweeps Lock Haven with Doubleheader Shutout

LOCK HAVEN – Louis Sick and Chas Parsons spun gems on the mound as Mansfield swept Lock Haven in a doubleheader shutout in PSAC East action Wednesday at Foundation Field. The Mountaineers won the opener 4-0 before taking game two 10-0.

Mansfield (18-15, 6-12 PSAC East) stymied Lock Haven's (11-20, 3-15 PSAC East) bats, allowing just four total hits in the doubleheader.

In his second start of the year, Parsons tossed a complete-game shutout in game one to improve his season record to 3-0. Parsons allowed just three hits and a walk in the game and struck out a batter.

Sick worked a perfect game through the first 4.0 innings of game two and had his no-hitter broken up on Lock Haven's only hit in the bottom of the fifth inning. The junior didn't issue a single walk in his 6.0 innings on the bump for his second win of the season.

It marked the Mountaineers first shutout since defeating St. Augustine's 8-0 in March.

Seth Tressler and Brandon Miller opened game one with back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners before Tressler scored on an error by the shortstop. Three straight outs left a pair of runners stranded, but Mansfield held the 1-0 lead.

The Mountaineers added another run in the top of the fourth inning when Tressler's RBI single down the left field line plated Wes Custer who reached on a single through the left side.

Miller led-off the fifth inning with a walk then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Eric Schanzenbacher's double to left center put a pair of runners in scoring position before Miller scored on Westyn Baylor's sacrifice fly to put Mansfield up 3-0.

In the top of the sixth inning, Taylor Hillson drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on a ground out. Hillson stole third base then raced home on a throwing error by the catcher to score the Mountaineer's fourth run of the game.
Tressler led Mansfield at the plate in the game, going 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a walk.

In game two, Mansfield scored the first runs of the game in the top of the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. Owen Lukens drove in Anthony Renz from third base for the first run before Tressler's single in the next at bat scored Custer.

The Mountaineers exploded for eight runs in the third inning to hold a commanding 10-0 lead. Mansfield loaded up the bases, with the first three batters all reaching on errors. Renz drove in Schanzenbacher with a single through the left side before Hillson drew a walk for another run. Lukens recorded his second RBI of the game to score Johnny LeClair and put Mansfield up 5-0. Three straight hits by Miller, Schanzenbacher and Baylor built the MU lead up to 10 runs.

Josh Patman relieved Sick for the bottom of the seventh pitching a three up, three down inning to close out the game.

Mansfield travels to Millersville on Friday for more PSAC East play before returning to Shaute Field to host the Marauders.
