Mounties Sweep Series with 10-2 Win at St. Augustine's
RALEIGH, NC –
Johnny LeClair homered and drove in four runs and
Matt Engler picked up his first of the season to pace Mansfield to a 10-2 win over St. Augustine's and a sweep of a three-game series Sunday in Raleigh.
LeClair started the scoring off early, drilling a two-run home run over the left field fence in the top of the first.
Mansfield added four more runs in the second inning with
Seth Tressler driving in the first with a single followed by a two-run double by
Brandon Miller. LeClair plated the fourth run of the inning by driving in Miller with a sacrifice fly.
Stain Augustine's cut the lead to 6-2 with a pair of runs in the fifth on an RBI singles by Corey Fields and Calvin Butcher.
LeClair stuck again the the top of the sixth with an RBI single and Mansfield got three more runs in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk by
Taylor Hillson along with a sacrifice fly's by
Seth Tressler and Miller.
Junior
Matt Engler picked up his first win of the season allowing one earned run and striking out three over the first 4.1 innings.
Louis Sick gave up two hits and struck out two in 2.2 innings of relief with
Tyler Hall and Dave Forbes each striking out two batters in an inning worked.
Mansfield pounded out nine hits in the game with LeClair and Tressler each going 2-4 from the plate and combining to drive in six runs.
Bryan Rivera took the loss for Saint Augstine's.
Mansfield improves to 5-2 on the season. The Mountaineers travel to Florida on for an eight-game spring trip staring March 13.
