FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Hahn's Walk-Off RBI Single leads Mansfield to Victory Over Charleston

SALEM, VA – Mansfield took to the field at Moyer Complex for their final game of the West Virginia Wesleyan College Softball Challenge. Freshman Kayla Hahn hit a walk-off RBI single to lead the Mounties to victory over the University of Charleston by a score of 2-1.

Kate Pratt started on the mound for Mansfield. The senior came into the contest with a record of 2-0. Pratt and the Mansfield defense were able to shut out Charleston in the top of the first. The inning was ended on a difficult over the shoulder catch by right fielder Laura Lawson.

In the bottom of the first, Stephanie Simmeth started things off for the Mountaineers with a single to right field. Simmeth was moved to second on a well-placed sacrifice bunt by Courtney Bauder. During Pratt's at bat, Simmeth was able to move to third on a wild pitch by Charleston's Courtney Fain. The senior reached home on a fielder's choice, and Inman was credited with the RBI to put Mansfield up 1-0.

The next two innings would end scoreless for both teams. Charleston responded to Mansfield in the top of the fourth inning. Samantha Herndon started off the inning with a lead-off triple to center field. Kelly Browning was able to bring Herndon home on an RBI sacrifice fly to left field to tie the game 1-1. With a runner on second and two outs on the board, Pratt was relieved by Ashley Inman. The senior from Troy, PA finished with three strikeouts. Inman shut down Hailey Tretick with a strikeout to end with fourth inning.

With Kaitlyn Harris on second with one out on board, Charleston made a pitching change in the bottom of the fourth inning. Morgan Aguirre came in to relieve Fain. Fain left the game with three strikeouts. Aguirre and Charleston finished the fourth inning without giving up a run to leave the score 1-1.

In the top of the fifth inning, Charleston's Ayla Santos recorded a lead-off double to left field. Kayla Mineo came in to pinch run for Santos. Santos was then moved off of a sacrifice bunt by Jenna Evans. With only one out on the board and Santos on third, Inman stepped up and struck out the next two batters to keep the score tied 1-1.

Inman and the Mansfield defense was able to shutout Charleston the next two innings without giving up a single hit to keep the score tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the seventh.

Leading off for the Mounties, Simmeth hit a double up the middle to begin the bottom of the seventh. Simmeth was then moved to third by a sacrifice bunt by Bauder. With a runner on third and one out, Pratt and Inman were both walked by Charleston's Aguirre to load the bases. After working the count to 1-1, Hahn hit a walk-off RBI single to shallow left center to end the game in dramatic fashion.

The 2-1 victory puts the Mounties at 6-2 on the season. Charleston moves to 12-6.

Aguirre (5-4) was credited with the loss, and Inman (3-0) was named the winner to remain undefeated this season. The sophomore finished with four strikeouts.

Mansfield was led at the plate by Simmeth (2-4, two runs) and Inman (2-3, one RBI).

The Mounties will take to field again on Mar. 18 against St. Augustine's University at the Winston-Salem Tournament in North Carolina.
