Block Party -- Pemberton Breaks Block Record but Mounties Lose Season Finale

Box Score
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Bloom Rallies Late to End Mansfield's Season – Pemberton Records 6 Blocks to Break Single Season Record

MANSFIELD – Charles Becoats and Joe Bell combined for 41 points but Bloomsburg rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half to pull out a 89-80 PSAC East win at First Citizens Community Bank Court at Decker Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.

The loss, combined with a Kutztown win over Shippensburg ended Mansfield's PSAC playoff hopes.

The loss put a bit of a damper on Senior Day for the Mountaineers with seniors Charles Becoats, Kevonte McClain, Onyema Utti and Xavier Warner honored in pregame ceremonies.

Mansfield sprinted out to a 13-3 lead on a 3-pointer by Joe Bell five minutes into the game and extended the advantage to 28-14 on a jumper by Becoats with seven minutes before intermission.

Bloomsburg would manage to cut the lead to under double-digits at 40-31 at halftime.

The Huskies continued their run, closing to 49-47 four minutes into the second half, but a 3-pointer by Brady Burke started off a 17-3 run for the Mountaineers, giving Mansfield a 66-50 advantage on a 3-pointer by Becoats with 12 minutes to play.

But the Mountaineers never managed to get back into sync after a Bloomsburg timeout with the Huskies going on a 23-4 run over the next six minutes to take their first lead since the first minute of the game at 72-71 on a free throw by Zach Sheetz with just under six minutes remaining.

Bloomsburg extended that lead to 80-70 with under four minutes to go and Mansfield was never able to pull to any closer than six points for the remainder of the game.

While Becoats and Bell were the scoring stars for the Mountaineers, Charles Pemberton was both an offensive and defensive force in the game. The junior forward hit on 8-9 from the floor in scoring 17 points while pulling down a team-most eight rebounds. Even more impressive, was Pemberton's six blocked shots in the game allowing him to break Rick Sabec's old single season record of 59 blocked shots. Pemberton finished the season with a record 62 blocked shots.

All five Bloomsburg starters scored in double-figures led by Jon Riles with a game high 26 points.
