Bell Scores 24 in Loss to Seton Hill
MANSFIELD –
Joe Bell scored 24 points but it wouldn't be enough to counter Seton Hill's hot-shooting as the Mountaineers dropped a 99-80 decision Saturday afternoon in a PSAC crossover game on First Citizens Community Bank Court in Decker Gymnasium.
It marks the first time Mansfield has lost to Seton Hill in five career meetings.
Seton Hill jumped out to a 20-6 lead after the first seven minutes of the game and had Mansfield playing catchup for almost the entire game.
The Griffins, who shot a sizzling 58% from the floor in the game, expanded their lead to 29-13 with eight minutes to play in the first half. Mansfield closed out the half on a 20-14 run to close the gap to 43-33 at intermission.
But Seton Hill shot even better in the second half, connecting on better than 60% of its shots, and used a 17-5 run over the first four minutes of the second half to build what would prove to be an insurmountable lead.
Mansfield outrebounded its opponents for the fourth straight game, pulling down 34 boards to Seton Hill's 31 but the Mountaineers struggled from the outside connecting on just 3-of-15 3-pointers (20.0%) to Seton Hill's 11-19 (57.9%).
Bell moved past Dennis Lomax (1,158 points, 1970-73) into 16th place on the all-time scoring list with 1,173 points in leading four Mountaineers in double-figures. It marks the seventh time this season the junior forward has scored 20 or more points in a game.
Charles Pemberton just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. He hit 6-of-8 shots from the floor.
Xavier Warner and freshman
Ryan Krawczeniuk each scored 10 points.
Seton Hill was led by Malachi Leonard who recorded a double-double with a game-high 28 points and 11 rebounds. Karneron Taylor also posted a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
Mansfield travels to California (PA) on Wednesday to wrap up its non-divisional schedule for the season.
