FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Schawillie's Four Goals Set MU All-Time Scoring Record, Lift Mounties Past Southern Connecticut State in Opener

SHIPPENSBURG – Senior Taryn Schawillie exploded for four goals, including three in the first half, to lift Mansfield past Southern Connecticut State for a 5-3 season opening victory at Shippensburg's Jane Goss Memorial Tournament.

Schawillie's first goal of the game moved her past Gretchen Reschke (1999-02) for the all-time Mansfield scoring record with 44 goals. With her four scores in today's contest, Schawillie now has 47 career goals with the Mounties.

Schawillie was a nuisance to the Owl defense, recoding 12 shots with seven going on goal.

Junior Lacey Croasdale scored her sixth career goal late in the contest.

Junior Jessi Swingle came up big on the defensive side of the ball, recording a pair of defensive saves. Senior Sarah Zwick, who was 5th in the nation in defensive saves in 2012, also had a defensive save in the contest.

Senior Kristie Rollman recorded a career-high 14 saves in the game to earn her first win in goal of the season. Rollman also totaled 14 stops against Shippensburg in 2010.

The Mountaineers trailed early on after allowing a Sarah Cebry goal in the second minute.

Schawillie tied the game with a line drive shot from the left side off a Mansfield penalty corner in the 18th minute.

Southern Connecticut regained the lead in the 23rd minute, but Schawillie answered back with goals in the 27th and 32nd minutes to record her second career hat trick before halftime while giving Mansfield a 3-2 advantage. Her first career hat trick came in a 5-4 win over Slippery Rock in 2010.

Schawillie added her fourth goal of the game in the 61st minute, taking a rebounded shot and flipping the ball into the right side of the goal. Croasdale added the fifth and final goal for the Mountaineers minutes later with a rocketed shot from just inside the circle.

Kayla Quinn added a goal for Southern Connecticut in the 66th minute, but the Mountaineer's lead was too much.

Southern Connecticut outshot the Mounties 24-17 and held a 16-9 advantage on penalty corners in the game.

It marks the third straight year that Mansfield has opened the season with a victory.

The Mountaineers will take on St. Michael's tomorrow at 10 a.m.
