Kutztown, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers field hockey team overpowered the Southern Connecticut State University Owls, 6-3, on Saturday (Sept. 5) as the opener to the 2026 season.
Alyssa Czekai and Amanda Ray had a pair of goals and an assist on the game
Lydia Miller locked down the goal with five saves.
The Mountaineers started the day scoring early with freshman Czekai scoring a goal in minute four to take an early lead.
The Owls and Mounties would stay silent through the rest of the first period with both teams splitting offensive opportunities going into the second period.
The red and black opened the second with another goal from Kylee Boardman assisted by Ray to take a 2-0 lead.
The Owls found their stride in the 25th minute with a goal to cut the lead down to one; both teams stayed quite going into the half.
SCSU came out of the half with an offensive presence to tie the match up 2-2 with a goal in the 36th minute.
The Mounties found their offensive stride with Ray earning her first goal of the season assisted by Czekai to put the Mounties 3-2.
Mansfield then earned another opportunity for Czekai to earn he second goal of the season to increase the lead to 4-2 to end the third period.
In the fourth quarter, both teams had strong offensive pursuits with the Mounties finding the back of the cage for Ray to earn her second of the game and Korimae Reisinger earned an assist off the score.The Mountaineers came right back with another goal for Reisinger that was assisted by Kaylie Ranere to give Mansfield a 6-2 lead.
The Owls closed the game with a goal off a penalty stroke to end the contest giving the Mounties the win 6-3.
