FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Mounties Host Huskies in Opening Round of PSAC Playoffs Saturday

MANSFIELD – The Mansfield University men's basketball team will host the Huskies of Bloomsburg University in a PSAC opening round playoff game this Saturday night in Decker Gymnasium.

Tickets to this PSAC event are $7 for adults and $2 for students. Mansfield University and Bloomsburg University students are admitted free with ID. No season passes will be honored.

Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live by ESPN Radio Williamsport's Shane Wilber. The broadcast stream, along with live stats will be available at GoMounties.com. Updates will also be available via twitter @MUMounties.

Mansfield is currently one of the hottest teams in the PSAC, earning the fourth-seed in the PSAC East after winning its last three games including a 90-65 win over Kutztown in the regular season finale Wednesday night.

That streak started with a 73-66 win at Bloomsburg allowing the two teams to split the regular season meetings. Bloomsburg pulled out an 82-81 double overtime win at Decker Gymnasium back in January.

Mansfield has been led by Joe Bell, Chuck Harper and Charles Becoats for most of the season. Bell, a sophomore forward and 1st Team All-PSAC East selection last year, ranks 6th in the PSAC in both scoring (17.7 ppg) and rebounding (8.1 rpg). Harper, a senior guard and the reigning PSAC East Player of the Week, has had the hot-hand of late averaging 17.3 points and 6.3 rebounds over the last three games while connecting on 55% of his shots from the floor.

Becoats, who has moved from point-guard to shooting-guard, is averaging 12.0 points per game on the year and has developed into one of the best 3-point shooters in the conference. Mansfield's lineup over the last three games has also included junior forward Kevonte McClain who is averaging 9.3 points and 5.3 rebounds over that span and freshman Kamil Parzych at point guard. Parzych is averaging 7.7 points and 6.0 assists per game over the last three outings including 12 assists in the win over Kutztown.

Bloomsburg, which dropped a 102-44 decision at PSAC East champion East Stroudsburg Wednesday, is led by junior guard Lorenzo Christmas and freshman Wes Lyons. Christmas is 9th in the PSAC in scoring (16.1 ppg) and is one of the top 3-point shooters in the conference. Lyons is averaging 8.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for the season but has played well in the two games against the Mountaineers averaging 16.5 points per game.

The game marks the fifth appearance in the conference playoffs in head coach Rich Miller's eight seasons at the helm. It's the first home playoff game for the Mountaineers since dropping a heart-breaking 77-75 setback to Cheyney after winning the PSAC East in 2011.

Bloomsburg, the fifth seed in this year's expanded playoff which takes the top six teams from each division, is making its second-straight PSAC appearance after capturing the co-PSAC East crown last year to snap a 11-year playoff drought. The Huskies last playoff win was a 60-54 victory in 2001.

The winner of Saturday's game will advance to play PSAC East Champion East Stroudsburg on Tuesday.
