First Half Deficit Too Big to Overcome in 88-65 Setback at East Stroudsburg
EAST STROUDSBURG –
Joe Bell scored a season-high 22 points but Mansfield couldn't overcome a big first half deficit in dropping a 88-65 decision to East Stroudsburg in the PSAC East season opener for both teams Wednesday night.
Bell scored the game's first two points and his jumper with 15:38 remaining in the first half gave Mansfield a 9-8 advantage but it would be the last lead of the night for the Mountaineers.
East Stroudsburg (5-0, 1-0 PSAC East) would use a 14-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 26-11 lead on a layup by Jamal Nwaniemeka and would extend its advantage to 52-30 at intermission.
Mansfield (1-3, 0-1 PSAC) committed 28 turnovers, the most in a game for the Mountaineers in head coach
Rich Miller's nine seasons at the helm, and were outrebounded on the offensive glass by a 15-8 margin.
Bell pulled down a game-high eight rebounds in addition to his 22 points. The junior forward now has 973 points in his career and needs just 27 more to reach the 1,000 point milestone.
