Mounties wrap-up 2012 season with win over Kutztown

KUTZTOWN --
Eric Conway threw a complete-game four-hitter and
Dylan Woodworth doubled twice and drove in two runs to lead Mansfield to a 6-3 win over Kutztown in the nightcap of a PSAC East season ending doubleheader Saturday afternoon.
Kutztown won the first game 9-0.
In the nightcap, Mansfield scored a run in the first inning when Woodworth doubled with one out and later scored on a double down the right field line by
Matt Fisher.
Mansfield added five more runs in the top of the fourth when
Conor Thompson drove in a run on a bases-loaded one-out single followed by a two-run double by Woodworth. A two-out throwing error my Kutztown led to the other two runs in the inning and a 6-0 lead.
Kutztown (31-15, 14-10 PSAC East) chipped away, scoring two runs in the fifth and another run in the sixth to close the gap to 6-3.
But Conway retired the side in order after a lead off Kutztown single in the bottom of the seventh to record his first collegiate complete game.
The senior struck out a career-best five batters on the day to improve to 2-1 on the season.
Woodworth went 2-4 in the game with two doubles and two RBI's to lead the offense.
Trent Mertz took the loss for Kutztown.
In the opener, the Mountaineers could muster little offense against three Kutztown pitchers. Connor Wing was credited with the win after going the first three innings with Corey Snyder and Gilbert Vega each throw scoreless ball.
Kutztown put the game out of reach early, scoring seven runs in the first inning including five against Mansfield starter
Danny Brown.
Interestingly, no extra-base hits were recorded by either team in the first game.
Mansfield ends the 2012 campaign with a 14-35 overall record including a 6-18 PSAC East mark.
