MANSFIELD – Joe Candelmo went the distance on the mound and Dylan Woodworth went two-for-three with a run and two RBI's as Mansfield picked up the 3-1 win in the opener against Shippensburg Sunday afternoon in a cold and wet Senior Day at Shaute Field.

The Mountaineers comeback bid fell just short in the nightcap with a 6-4 loss.

Seniors Eric Conway, Mike Martin, Brian Milliman, Jon Moser, Aaric Ross, Mike Strong, Levi Weiskopff, and Andy Young were all honored in a pre-game ceremony as part of the Mountaineer's Senior Day.

In the opener, Shippensburg recorded a hit in each of the first three innings, but Candelmo refused to allow a run to cross the plate as the Raiders left five runners stranded. Meanwhile Shippensburg's Pat Kregeloh stymied the Mountie bats through the opening two innings, not allowing a hit.

Mansfield broke up the scoreless tie in the bottom of the 3rd when Stephen Stopper and Jordan Miller drew two straight walks before a Connor Thompson sacrifice bunt moved the runners over a base and into scoring position. With one out, Woodworth laced a two-RBI single up the middle to put the Mountaineers on top. After stealing a bag, Woodworth scored from second when Matt Fisher reached on an error to make the count 3-0 in Mansfield's favor.

After two scoreless innings, Shippensburg put a run on the board when Simon Beloff reached home on a sacrifice fly to right.

Mansfield's three runs in the 3rd proved to be enough as the Mountaineers came away with the victory.

Candelmo improved to 3-7 with his third complete game effort on the season. The junior lefty allowed just one earned run on four hits while striking out four batters.

The Raider's Kregeloh took the complete game loss, allowing just two hits on the day while striking out four batters.

In the nightcap, Shippensburg notched the opening run in the top of the 2nd when Tyler Shover reached home on a RBI groundout to the shortstop to put the Raiders up 1-0.

Shippensburg took a commanding lead in the 4th after recording four straight hits and taking advantage of a Mansfield error to tally five runs in the inning. The Raiders built their lead to 6-0 and chased the Mountaineer starting pitcher from the mound in the process.

Mansfield rallied in the bottom half of the inning when Jon Taddeo stroked a one-out double down the right field line and later scored on a Brian Milliman single to left. Facing two outs, freshman Jordan Miller plated Milliman with an RBI single. After advancing to third on a Conor Thompson double, Miller scored the Mountie's third run of the inning on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 6-3.

The Mountaineers tacked on another run in the 5th after Taddeo plated Matt Fisher with an RBI single up the middle, however it wouldn't be enough as Shippensburg came away with the game two victory.

Jimmy Miller earned his sixth victory of the season after allowing nine hits and four earned runs in 5.0 innings of work. The Raider's Kody Kibler picked up his sixth save of the year after retiring the side in the bottom of the 7th.

Andy Young took the loss, allowing three earned runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings on the bump. Junior Joel Worthington allowed just two hits and struck out two batters in 3.1 innings of relief work.

Woodowrth stayed hot in game two, going two-for-two at the dish with a walk. The junior centerfielder was a total four-for-four on the day.

Taddeo was two-of-four with a run and an RBI in the nightcap.

Mansfield will host Clarion for a doubleheader at Shaute Field on Tuesday.
