MANSFIELD – Kate Pratt tied the single-season record for home runs in a season and Danielle Long had a homer and a double, but Mansfield (19-12, 7-7 PSAC Central) came up just short in both ends of doubleheader against IUP (22-12, PSAC Central), dropping a 2-1 decision in the opener and a 5-3 result in the nightcap Sunday afternoon at Helen Lutes Field.

Game one saw two scoreless innings before Indiana got out in front, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly and an RBI double to lead 2-0.

The Mountaineers had little going on the offensive side until the bottom of the 5th when Courtney Bauder and Kaitlin Harris led-off the inning with back-to-back hits. Senior Erin Carroll loaded the bases with a walk two batters later, but the Crimson Hawk's Kelly King got out of the jam as Mansfield stranded all three runners.

Long scored the Mountaineer's lone run in the bottom of the 7th when she grooved the first pitch she saw over the left centerfield fence. The solo shot marked Long's third home run of the season.

King earned the complete game victory for IUP giving up just four hits and one earned run while striking out six batters. Pratt also fanned six batters, but took the loss after giving up two earned runs on five hits in a complete game effort.

In the nightcap, Indiana took the early 2-0 lead on back-to-back RBI doubles in the top of the 1st inning. The Hawks built their lead to 4-0 in the 3rd inning after Megan McCormick hit a two-run blast over the right field fence.

In the 4th inning Pratt cut the Mountaineers' deficit to 4-1 after hitting a lead-off home run to right centerfield. With the homer, Pratt becomes just the third player in school history to record nine home runs in a season along with Nicole Yost, who hit nine round-trippers in each of her first three seasons (2008, 2009, 2010) and Jaclyn Laskowski (2003). Pratt is currently tied for 5th in the PSAC for most home runs with Samantha Eimers of Mercyhurst. Bloomsburg's Sam Pientack leads the conference with 13.

IUP tacked on another run in the top of the 6th when Ashley Strack plated Jasa Mitchell with an RBI single to left field.

In the bottom of the 7th, Mansfield put runners in scoring position with one out after Chara Dixon singled and Long doubled. Dixon raced home on a wild pitch and Long was brought home via a Kaitlyn Harris RBI to cut IUP's lead to 5-3. However, the Mountaineers comeback bid fell just short as the Hawks came away with the sweep.

King earned her second complete game victory of the day, scattering five hits and striking out four. Mansfield's Liz Pieniazek took the loss after giving up four earned runs in 2.0 innings of work. Junior Caitlin Klobosits struck out six in 5.0 innings of relief.

The Mountaineers play at Gannon on Tuesday before meeting Lock Haven on the road in a key PSAC Central division match-up.
