LEESBURG, Fla – The Mansfield University baseball team dropped their opening contest in Florida after an 8-1 decision against the University of Findlay (OH) Friday morning at Pat Thomas Stadium.
After a scoreless first inning, Findlay went on the offensive, hanging seven runs on the board in the bottom of the second. The Oilers used six hits, including two doubles, and a walk to take a commanding lead over the Mountaineers.
Findlay added another run in the fourth to hold an 8-0 advantage.
In the top of the fifth inning, senior
Jon Moser found himself in scoring position after hitting a lead-off double to right center field. Two batters later, junior
Joel Worthington brought Moser home with an RBI single.
Findlay's Preston Zachrich picked up the win, pitching 6.0 innings while giving up five hits and striking out six.
Junior
Joe Candelmo earned the loss after pitching 1.2 innings, surrendering six hits and four earned runs.
Game two of the doubleheader was called due to rain in the third inning.
Mansfield faces Saginaw Valley State in doubleheader action tomorrow at 3 pm in Auburndale, Fla.
