MANSFIELD –
Kate Pratt and
Courtney Bauder each homered in the nightcap as the Mounties hung 18 runs on the board in six innings to earn a split against PSAC foe East Stroudsburg Saturday evening at Helen Lutes Field.
The Warriors rallied late in the first game to defeat Mansfield 11-9.
In the opener, the Mountaineers answered East Stroudsburg's three runs in the top of the first by scoring four of their own to take a one-run lead.
Pratt started the four-run inning by hitting a two-out double before reaching home after sophomore
Chrissy Lauer did the same. Sophomore Kaitlin Harris drove home Lauer and freshman Bauder, who reached on a single through the left side, with a hit up the middle. Harris was brought home via a Kelly Pfleegor RBI single to give Mansfield the lead.
The Warriors added a run in the second and two in the third to lead 6-4. However, Pfleegor struck again with bases loaded in the bottom of the third, delivering a two-RBI single to right field scoring Bauder and Pratt. Harris scored the go-ahead-run after
Chara Dixon reached on an error.
East Stroudsburg wouldn't go away, scoring the tying run in the fourth on a Rachel Gieringer home run.
Pratt put the Mounties up 9-7 in the bottom of the inning delivering a two-run blast over the fence in right center field.
However, a pesky East Stroudsburg used three runs in the fifth and one run in the sixth to come away with the victory.
Pratt went three-for-three with three runs and two runs batted in while Bauder went two-for-four with two runs scored.
In the nightcap, the Mountaineers used seven and five-run frames in the first and third innings respectively to hold a commanding 12-3 lead over the Warriors.
In the third, Pratt cranked a grand slam over the fence in right center, scoring four runs for the Mounties. The homer was Pratt's second of the day and sixth of the season.
Mansfield added two insurance runs in the bottom of the fourth.
East Stroudsburg rallied in the top of the fifth inning to keep the game alive with a five-run frame to cut the lead to 14-8.
In the bottom of the inning, Bauder hit a solo-shot over the right field fence. The home run was the first of Bauder's collegiate career.
The Warriors tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth.
In the bottom of the inning, the Mounties loaded the bases after senior
Jordan Rishel walked and sophomore
Stephanie Simmeth and junior Kaitin Kramer each singled. Pratt drove home one run with a doubled to center before
Kaitlin Kramer reached home on a wild pitch. Junior Dixon hit a walk-off single, scoring Pratt as the Mounties picked up the split.
Simmeth went five-for-five in the finale driving in four runs and scoring twice. Pratt went three-for-five with six RBIs and three runs scored.
Mansfield improved to 13-6 on the season while East Stroudsburg moved to 8-17.
